A new mural by nationally recognized artist Manuel Acosta graces the south El Paso landscape.
More than 150 people turned out Sunday for the unveiling of the mural at La Fe Centro de Salud Familiar in South El Paso.
The mural is an amalgamation of the history of La Fe Clinic, which was founded in 1968, Acosta said.
"I put my feelings of colors and the objects we surround ourselves with into this mural," Acosta said. "All in all, it gives a picture of the neighborhood called Segundo Barrio.
"It was the challenge that kept me going," he said of the mural, which took two months to complete. "The challenge was there to create a sense of the people of the barrio—the dignity, the quiet determination to find better things in life."
The mural is part of the new La Fe Clinic building, 700 S. Ochoa St. La Fe Clinic is a medical facility serving low-income families in El Paso.
"I have marveled at the beauty Acosta has captured in this mural," said Pete Duarte, clinic administrator." The thousands of kids that come through here each year will be able to see a work of art by a man with a Hispanic surname."
Acosta came to the United States when he was one year old. He crossed the Rio Grande with his mother.
