UTEP Arts and Culture |

Centennial Museum | The citizens of El Paso and the surrounding region are invited to take advantage of the rich cultural resources available on the UTEP campus. The links on this page lead to museums, archives, cinemas, stages, and galleries whose cultural productions are enriching not only for the university community, for all of the borderlands. Catch a dinner theater play, visit the Chihuahuan desert gardens, or come for a weekend independent movie. Whatever your fancy, UTEP keeps the student and artist alive in everyone throughout the El Paso region. The latest addition to the UTEP Arts scene is the Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts. The mission of the Rubin Center is to introduce visitors to contemporary art, and educate them about its relevance in a vibrant and forward-looking society. Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center | The building, uniquely positioned between the Fox Fine Art Center, a locus of creativity, and the renowned Sun Bowl Stadium, sets the stage for our continued commitment to supporting and exhibiting the art of today, as well as examples of historical precedents that shape contemporary visual expression. We showcase the work of visiting artists who are internationally recognized, or on the verge of such recognition. The shows we present are an exciting mix of the known and the up-and-coming. The Rubin Center contains three distinct gallery spaces. The Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Gallery is designed for larger-scale artworks and sculpture, while the L-gallery, with its more intimate design, is an ideal space for framed art and smaller pieces. Our third exhibition space is reserved primarily for advanced UTEP art students and El Paso-based artists who are either launching their careers or establishing a new direction in their work. At the Rubin Center, UTEP students participate in organizing, mounting, marketing and educating audiences about exhibitions. As geographic and ideological boundaries and borders increasingly become the subject of contemporary art, the Rubin Center emerges as the ideal venue for the exhibition of some of today's most compelling ideas.
