Dead Day meeting! 12/03/03 - 11:00PM

Based on the feedback from the last meeting, it has been decided to have an additional meeting on Dead Day! What we'll do is show 9 potential candidates this Friday, December 5th. Meeting starts at 11:00AM and will end at 3:00PM. See you all there!

Another semester ends... 11/18/03 - 11:30PM

All good things must come to an end so, this Friday will be the last "official" ASU meeting for the semester. Why do we say last "official" meeting? Well, this Friday (November 21st) will conclude the 13 meetings we had planned for this semester. Saint Seiya Hades and NaruTaru will conclude and Naruto will reach its end of season point (same thing with other series).

There might be additional activities (such as parties) between now and the beginning of next semester, so ASU won't be inactive during that time. Your Officers are meticulously planning what will be happening next semester so that you can continue to enjoy the latest and greatest anime with ASU in 2004. There will be a poll on Friday to see how many people are interested in having an additional meeting on Dead Day (Friday, December 5th). So, if you want ASU to have a meeting on Dead Day, let us know this Friday. Depending on the number of people interested, we will adjust the title selection. Be there, get informed, and make your voice heard!

So, with that, we wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving (make sure to give thanks for all the great anime we get to enjoy ^_-!) and good luck to everybody with Finals. May you pass all your classes and continue to enjoy anime with ASU next year! ASU banzai! ASU banzai!!

Video game tournament results 11/12/03 - 4:35PM

OK, so here are the long overdue tournament results.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes

Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival

Capcom vs. SNK 2: Millionaire Fighting 2001

SoulCalibur II

We want to thank all the people who helped us out in the tournament, either by lending equipment, helping set things up, or just by supporting us by assisting to the tournament.

Slumber party success 11/12/03 - 4:30PM

We want to thank anyone who assisted to the second "slumber party" of the semester, which was a success. We all had a fun time and we were able to see some of the future candidate titles. Special thanks to Jamie for hosting the party, and Andy and James for helping us get something to eat.

Shingetsutan Tsukihime and Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu elected into schedule 11/04/03 - 10:23PM

The people has spoken, and the titles to be introduced into the schedule are Shingetsutan Tsukihime (True Moon Story - Moon Princess) and Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu. Tsukihime will take over the non-action spot while Fumoffu will take over the action spot.

New titles to be elected 10/28/03 - 10:20PM

After some deliberations it has been decided that the titles to substitute Sutepri and Princess Tutu will be elected during this week's meeting. Because of this, there will be some schedule changes so that voting will be done after the first title (1:25PM) and the winners will be announced by 2:00PM.

Princess Tutu will be substituted by a non-action title and Sutepri will be substituted by an action title. The following are the candidates on each category (in alphabetical order):

Non-action candidates

Action candidates

Again, AnimeNfo is good as a reference but not to form an opinion based on the user reviews. Please research the titles and see which would interest you the most. Some of these have been already screened at the last party and some others haven't. Please do you homework so you can make an informed decision when you cast your vote on Friday!

If you're a member and will not be present during the voting time (see above), you can still cast an absentee ballot. To do so please see our advisor (Andy) at his office in LART 410 (room at the end of LACIT) on Friday before the meeting.

For the schedule changes please have a look at the next meeting section.

Licensing spree continues, Scrapped Princess to be dropped from schedule 10/21/03 - 8:45PM

AN Entertainment's John Oppliger has also confirmed that Scrapped Princess (and Saikano) has been licensed as well. Together with Princess Tutu, we will be have to drop this title from the schedule, making this week's meeting the last time that Princess Tutu and Sutepri will be shown. Stay tuned for updates on how the titles to take over are going to be selected.

Princess Tutu dropped from schedule 10/21/03 - 9:10PM

Since Princess Tutu has been licensed for domestic release as per AN Entertainment's John Oppliger (who is a rather reliable source), it has been dropped from the ASU lineup. After deliberation by the Officers, Princess Tutu will be replaced by Sumeba Miyako no Cosmos-sou, Suttoko Taisen Dokkoider starting next Friday. Please look forward to it!

Update 10/23/03 - 8:30PM

It has been decided that we will show Princess Tutu for a last time. The title substituting Princess Tutu will be decided with the title substituting Scrapped Princess.

Next slumber party coming up 10/21/03 - 9:00PM

Because of Jamie's birthday, there will be a new Slumber Party on November 8. The place will be the same as the last Slumber Party. For full details have a look at the other activities section.

Update 11/04/03 - 10:25PM

The information has been finally available. Check out the other activities section for all you need to know.

Schedule change cancelled 10/16/03 - 9:55PM

Good news, everyone. The schedule conflict has been solved and we will be able to use the LACIT Viewing Room during the full meeting! The schedule has been appropriately updated.

Potential schedule change 10/14/03 - 10:35PM

Due to a *possible* schedule conflict with a faculty meeting, this week's meeting might see a delay. Since it is still not sure whether the other activity will actually happen, we are posting two different schedules: one if the meeting goes as normal, and one in case we have to start late. We will try to comfirm which of the two schedules we will use as soon as possible.

Video game tournament coming up 10/14/03 - 9:35PM

After the success of last semester's video game tournament, it has been decided to do the same activity this semester. Have a look at the other activities section for more information on the date, place and time the tournament will take place.

Slumber party success 10/8/03 - 9:30PM

We just want to thank anyone who assisted to the first "slumber party" of the semester, which was a success. We all had a fun time and we were able to see some of the future candidate titles. Special thanks to Raul for letting us (once again) use his place for the meeting, Jabel for letting us (once again) use his laptop for the second half of the showings (webmaster's note: I didn't come up with this ^_^;;) and everyone who brought DVDs to share.

Slumber party coming up 10/8/03 - 1:07AM

A reminder that this Saturday is going to be the first "slumber party" of the semester. If you have not been in one before, you are encouraged to join us! This slumber party will feature the first episode of several titles that just got released with the new season in Japan, so this is a good opportunity to get to know new titles!

Uchuu no Stellvia elected into schedule 10/8/03 - 1:05AM

So, after adding a new title to the schedule, it was decided that the new spot will be taken by Uchuu no Stellvia, a sci-fi action/comedy title. Hope you guys enjoy this new title.

Meeting delayed - Starting time for this week 10/2/03 - 7:00PM

A class will be using the room until 1:30 PM this Friday so we will have to start the meeting at that time. Unfortunately, we won't have an Officers' Spot this week. The schedule have been updated with the most up-to-date info.

First slumber party of the semester 10/1/03 - 12:40AM

Thanks to Raul and Paco's generosity (yet another time ^_^;;), we will have a slumber party in two weeks. For the date, time and address information take a look at the other activities section.

For those who don't know, "slumber party" is the term we use for unofficial "meetings" we have at a member's place to enjoy a day full of anime. We often use these gatherings to take a look at new or different titles, and get to know each other better.

New anime title on the schedule 10/1/03 - 12:30AM

Due to popular demand, it has been decided that there will be no breaks between showings, in exchange of having an extra title on the schedule!

The new title will be decided during the meeting. Ballots will be handed to members before the showing of Princess Tutu, and will be picked up after the showing of Saint Seiya. This will give us enough time to count the votes and announce the winner.

The runner-up titles of this semester will be the ones competing for the new spot. These titles are:

Please note that although AnimeNfo is a good source of information, it is not the most reliable source for reviews.

Membership Drive on Friday: ASU needs your support!! 9/24/03 - 12:30AM

Well, it's that time of the year again. No, not taxes! Not Thanksgiving or Christmas either. It's registration time for ASU. We will be holding a membership drive on Friday at 3:00PM to enlist new members and re-register our current ones. What do you need to be a member? Well I'm glad you asked:

The officers will be taking down the information necessary from those of you who wish to become members (members have a say in several aspects of the society, such as title selection). Although no one is required to become a member to enjoy ASU's weekly anime showings (they're absolutely FREE!), we would really appreciate it that if you're eligible to be a member to become one!

Schedule is now permanent for the rest of the semester 9/24/03 - 12:30AM

After testing out different configurations over the past few weeks, taking input from people and getting an overall feel for things, we're proud to announce the permanent schedule for the Fall 2003 semester. Check out the next meeting page to see when your favorite titles are going to be shown.

Spirited Away ASU Field Trip (Part 2!) 9/24/03 - 12:30AM

Thanks to the benevolence of ASU member Gaspar, we will be going to check out the Spanish dub (or sub!) of Spirited Away ("El Viaje de Chihiro") in Juarez, Mexico this Friday September 26th. So, if you want to check out the dub (even if you don't speak Spanish :P), we will be leaving an hour or so after the meeting ends (maybe 6-ish or 7-ish) and return to El Paso later that evening. Talk to Gaspar and/or Angel during the meeting if interested (transportation seating is limited)! Check out "The New Spirited Away ASU Field Trip" thread on the ASU forums!

Upcoming activities... 9/24/03 - 12:30AM

Well, asides from the "Spirited Away ASU Field Trip" (tm), we have several more surprises in store for you. We should be having a major activity late next month or early November (development is still ongoing so, we'll make the corresponding announcements at the appropriate time). One of our very popular and now traditional "ASU Slumber Parties" (tm) should be coming up in the next few weeks. Hopefully we'll have more of that world-renowned "Nathan's ASU Slumber Party Pasta" (tm) to savor while we enjoy a whole day of the latest anime in the company of good friends!!!

Please look forward to all of these great activities that ASU will be bringing you in the next few weeks!

More anime!!?? 9/24/03 - 12:30AM

What's that you say!? You want some more anime!? Well, we may have a surprise in store for you next week. Keep tuned to the news and the forum in the upcoming days for more details...
