GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS

Audiovisual and multimedia materials (35 mm slides, prints, flat art, video, sound) have exceptional value in illustrating or developing a concept, principle, phenomenon, or process in the area of U.S.-Mexico Border Studies. While you may think a particular audiovisual or multimedia image is commonplace, a student or an instructor at another educational center may be delighted to be able to use the image in lecture, lab presentations, projects, or handouts. We ask you therefore, to consider sharing the audiovisual and multimedia image with us for inclusion in The Borderlands Encylopedia.

We prefer all submissions to be in the digital formats as described below. Submission of digitized materials will expedite making the materials available on The Borderlands Encylopedia. We understand, however, that you may not have access to equipment or the technical expertise to convert original material to a digital format. We can provide assistance in the conversion process eventhough there may be a delay in making the material available on The Borderlands Encyclopedia until the digitization is completed. When possible, submit duplicates of all digitized and non-digitized materials to safeguard against loss or damage. And although we will carefully handle all items submitted, we do want to alert you that we cannot be held responsible for loss or damage of material.

DIGITIAL FORMATS

The following guidelines represent how material is distributed through The Borderlands Encyclopedia. Distribution of materials to The Borderlands Encyclopedia will be expedited when provided to us in the following formats, either in an English or Spanish language format.

Provided in plain ASCII (text only, no formatting codes) files.

Still Images

Submit both a full size JPEG image and a thumbnail sized GIF image.

Sound

Sound files should be provided in AIFF, AU or WAV format. Contact us if your sound files are in a different format.

Other Digitized Media

We accept digitized material delivered via anonymous ftp, 3.5 inch diskettes, Zip diskettes, CD-rom, audio CD, and photo CD.

NON-DIGITIZED FORMATS

We accept non-digitized materials including audio cassettes, vhs tapes, 8mm video tapes, and photographs. We cannot, however, accept non-digitized text. Please note: Delivery of non-digitized materials may delay making the material available on The Borderlands Encyclopedia until the digitization is completed.
