Scholarship Opportunities
The Department of Accounting & Information Systems is responsible for collecting, screening and recommending students for the following scholarships. To be considered for one or more of these scholarships you must submit a Scholarship Application Form on or before October 31, 2014.
El Paso Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountancy
The El Paso Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants awards two scholarships each academic year.
Outstanding Junior:
Scholarship Amount: $1,500 per year
The scholarship is awarded to an applicant who has completed his or her sophomore year (60 credit hours or more) and is either enrolled in or has completed Intermediate Accounting I at the time of the scholarship award.
Outstanding Senior:
Scholarship Amount: $1,500
The scholarship is awarded to an applicant who has completed his or her junior year (90 credit hours or more) and 12 upper division accounting credit hours at the time of the scholarship award.
The El Paso Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors
Scholarship Amount: $1,000
The El Paso Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors awards one scholarship each academic year to the student selected as the Outstanding Auditing Student by the UTEP Department of Accounting and Information Systems. The award is a merit scholarship and is not based on financial need. The student may be an undergraduate or a graduate student.
Requirements:
Student must be pursuing a degree in Accounting
Student must be enrolled full time (12 hours undergraduate or 9 hours graduate)
Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
Student must have an interest in pursuing a career in auditing, preferably internal auditing
Tammy Vasilatos, CPA, LLP Accounting Scholarship
Scholarship Amount: $5,000 per year
Requirements:
Student is pursuing a graduate degree in Accounting
Student must be currently enrolled in 6 hours graduate accounting coursework
Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
Student must have completed 15 hours of accounting beyond Principles of Accounting
Student must be enrolled in 6 hours graduate accounting course work per semester
Student must plan on taking the CPA exam
Student must have financial need, although not necessarily based on federal guidelines
This scholarship is renewable provided the student continues to meet the University Scholarship Guidelines
Gibson Ruddock Patterson LLC Accounting Scholarship
Scholarship Amount: $3,000 per year
Requirements:
Student is pursuing a degree in Accounting
Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
Student must be enrolled full time (12 hours undergraduate or 9 hours graduate)
Student must have financial need, although not necessarily based on federal guidelines
This scholarship is renewable provided the student continues to meet the University Scholarship Guidelines
Lauterbach, Borschow & Company Accounting Scholarship
Scholarship Amount: $5,000 per year
Requirements:
Student is pursuing a degree in Accounting
Student must have completed 12 hours of accounting beyond Principles of Accounting
Student must have a minimum 3.5 GPA
Student must be enrolled full time (12 hours undergraduate or 9 hours graduate)
Student must have financial need, although not necessarily based on federal guidelines
This scholarship is renewable provided the student continues to meet the University Scholarship Guidelines
