Professional Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering


The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a Professional Master of Engineering (PME) in Mechanical Engineering. The Degree requirements for this program are given below:

  • A minimum of 15 semester hours of mechanical engineering classes
    (9 hours need to be 5000 level or higher)
  • 3 semester hours of a graduate project
  • The balance of 15 semester hours in graduate classes that support the student's thematic focus

OR

  • A minimum of 18 semester hours of mechanical engineering classes
    (12 hours need to be 5000 level or higher)
  • The balance of 15 semester hours in graduate classes that support the student's thematic focus

The student is required to develop a course plan of the classes out of the mechanical engineering program that he/she wishes to take and a statement of how these classes satisfy the student's area of interest. This must be approved by the Graduate Program Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Thematic areas may include the following:

  • Manufacturing
  • Product Development
  • Management
  • Systems
  • Biomechanical
  • Aerospace

Depending upon selected area of concentration, students may need to complete deficiency undergraduate coursework.

Application Requirements

Students entering the PME program must have:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent, in mechanical or related engineering disciplines.
  • A Superior Academic Record
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (IBT 79; CBT 213) for international applicants
  • At least two letters of reference from individuals qualified to judge their capability to do master-level work. Students who do not meet the above requirements may also apply with additional justifications
