Kinesiology is the study of human movement and physical activity. UTEP kinesiology students explore and study many exciting topics in physical education and exercise science. Classes in the Department of Kinesiology also prepare students for certifications as Strength and Conditioning Specialists, Personal Trainers, Health Fitness Instructors, Exercise Specialists, and Clinical Exercise Physiologist or graduate programs in physical and occupational therapy.
Our graduate program features face-to-face and online courses for students interested in exercise science or pedagogy. The Department collaborates in the UT-Telecampus online Master Degree in Kinesiology and our faculty members teach three courses in this award-winning program. The Kinesiology Department is also part of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Health Sciences program at UTEP.
UTEP’s Kinesiology faculty is dedicated to life-long learning, personal growth and student success. Classes are taught using cooperative and active learning strategies. In addition to teaching, faculty members advise students, publish columns in the local papers and are involved in numerous research projects including the Physical Fitness in the Golden Age program. Research is conducted in the Fitness Research Center, and our state-of-the-art Human Performance and Stanley E. Fulton Motor Behavior and Biomechanics Laboratories.
