Artie L. Metcalf

Dr. Metcalf was Curator of Mollusks in the Laboratory for Environmental Biology until 2010 and on retirement was honored by the title of Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Texas at El Paso. He passed away in his home state of Kansas in January of 2016.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas in 1964, majoring in Zoology (with specialization in ichthyology) and minoring in geology.

Although originally trained as an ichthyologist, research over the past 25 years has been with Southwestern land snails, both living and Quaternary fossils.
