Academic Advising


PRE-PHARMACY ACADEMIC ADVISING

Admitted pre-pharmacy students are required to meet with the SOP Academic Advisor prior to the start of every semester to discuss their academic path.  Academic advising is provided as (1) group advising sessions and (2) individual advising sessions.  Advising sessions will review prerequisite course requirements and provide general SOP updates.  Potential additional topics may include: pre-pharmacy degree options, student resources, and the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT).  All pre-pharmacy students will be contacted ay the SOP Office of Student Affairs each semester with the information regarding advising sessions.  Attendance at a group advising session is required, failure to do so will result in one’s inability to register for the following semester (i.e., academic hold). All pre-pharmacy students will be contacted via their UTEP email address. 

Group Academic Advising is mandatory for all students.

You cannot schedule a one-on-one advising appointment without attending group advising beforehand.

If there is an emergency that prevents you from attending group advising, documentation must be given to your advisor.

Please note that the Academic Advisor’s role is to provide advice and guidance through a student’s journey in pre-pharmacy. It is expected that the student arrives to their advising session on time and fully prepared.  Please be sure to have questions/concerns written down in advance and, if applicable, pre-select courses that you plan on taking for the upcoming semester.
