Homecoming 2015

On October 4th, 2015, the Department of Geological Sciences hosted a Homecoming Breakfast for our Alumni & Friends.  An orchestra of UTEP students entertained the crowd.  Later, Dr. Benjamin Brunner gave a tour of his newly established light stable isotope laboratory, demonstrating how he uses state-of-the-art equipment to decipher the role of microbes in the formation of diagenetic carbonate rocks.

Earth Science Week 2015

Join the Geological Sciences Department on Saturday October 17th from 1-4pm at UTEP’s Geology building to celebrate Earth Science Week. This year’s theme highlight’s “Visualizing Earth's Systems” and aims to educate the communities youth and general public about the critical role geosciences plays in our understanding of the natural world. An understanding our natural systems- the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere- allows us to both better manage our resources and coexist with our natural world. A number of activities, including a rock and mineral auction, will be available aiming to engage and educate the youth and general public of our community and we encourage everyone to bring along and involve their families. Special guest lectures will also serve to provide in depth discussion about Earth systems. Don’t forget to bring your appetites as well because we will also be hosting a free BBQ for those attending!

Homecoming 2014

On October 11, the Department of Geological Sciences celebrated the Centennial Homecoming with a day packed full of activities.

This year's homecoming was very special – The University of Texas at El Paso was founded in 1914 as the Texas College of Mines. Thus, the Department of Geological Sciences and UTEP celebrate together our centennial birthday. We are very grateful that so many alumni spent this special day together with us! Over 25 Alumni joined us during the day for field trips and gatherings.
