Social Workers are special people. A strong desire to make a difference in the lives of others is just the beginning. In times of crisis, Social Workers help people work through problems, consider solutions and find resources. Social Workers can be found in schools, hospitals, social service agencies and legislative offices. Social workers care..

UTEP’s location, in a bi-national, bi-cultural urban community of more than 2 million people on the U.S.-Mexico border, gives our students a unique perspective on social work. The Social Work Department is committed to educate culturally competent practitioners. By combining classroom work and practicum fieldwork in social service agencies in El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, UTEP students graduate with the skills and knowledge to practice generalist social work in a wide variety of settings.

A bachelor’s degree in social work from UTEP prepares students for generalist practice. Graduates are eligible for licenses in all 50 states. UTEP’s program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. More than 100 majors are enrolled in the program.
