UTEP’s Center for Hispanic Entrepreneurship (CfHE), which was established through Kauffman Foundation funding, fosters the generation, transformation and use of knowledge regarding Hispanic entrepreneurship.

The goals of the CfHE:

  • Contribute to the quality and amount of knowledge of Hispanic Entrepreneurship by stakeholders who are UTEP students and professors, our sponsors, entrepreneurs, the three levels of government, society in general and more specifically the Hispanic community.
  • Develop and maintain a network for the interchange of resources, guidance, image, opportunities and information concerning Hispanic entrepreneurial activities; such as development of pedagogic instruments, research tools and databases, and learning aids
  • Develop and maintain forums and outlets to procure and enhance dialog among entrepreneurs, the academic community, and policy makers
  • Develop methods and procedures that help in the understanding and dissemination of knowledge of the entrepreneurial process and purpose
  • Define and promote the role Hispanics play in the entrepreneurial environment

The CfHE accomplishes these goals through six programs:

  • Publication programs, which create outlets for interchange of ideas throughout the faculty. These programs encourage participation of faculty from different colleges and schools throughout Campus and will provide them with means to improve the quality of their research. These programs include a “Working Papers” series of conceptual and empirical papers available for discussion and improvement through the distribution to the faculty affiliated to CfHE, an “Entrepreneurial Cases” series that provides teaching cases and teaching notes from Hispanic Businesses or businesses that deal with Hispanics, and a databases program that provides online information to researchers and educators in the field of Hispanic entrepreneurship.
  • A presentation  and travel support program for professional organizations in the area of Hispanic Entrepreneurship.  This program helps  faculty and students participate in local, regional, national and  international meetings by presenting papers regarding Hispanic entrepreneurship.
  • An academic exchange program, which works with academic institutions and professional organizations that encourage, support, and assist in the furthering of knowledge regarding entrepreneurship and more specifically Hispanic entrepreneurship.
  • A diffusion and promotion program that provides to the general public the knowledge developed through the CFHE.
  • Hispanic Entrepreneur support programs , including the creation and dissemination of tools and technical support activities that help Hispanic entrepreneurs in the development of their entrepreneurial activities
  • Development of Business Centers that create and support businesses in the region taking into account other sources of financing and support such as local foundations, existing entrepreneurs

The work of the CfHE is supported by a group of leading researchers who have been named CfHE Fellows, http://www.utep.edu/utepkci/fellows/cfhe. These researchers work with students to develop and disseminate new knowledge on entrepreneurship, particularly as it relates to the Hispanic community. The CfHE fellows work with students, both graduate and undergraduate, that are currently supported by the UTEP Kauffman Campus Initiative.
