Carpinteria Age. Radiocarbon dates on plant material indicated the several samples were beyond the limits of determination, with the oldest determination as greater than 53,000 BP (Shaw and Quinn 2015). Here, the age will somewhat arbitrarily be considered as early Wisconsin.

Axelrod (1983) gave the age as 40,000 BP without comment. Without further documentation, the fossils will be recorded as Wisconsin in age pending further information.

Synonyms.Higgen's Tar Beds, Higgen's Tar Ranch.
