Human Corridor, Dry Cave

NM: Eddy Co., 1280 m.

rule

Location of the Human Corridor site.Age. Late Wisconsin. Between 15,000 and 12,000 BP on stratigraphic grounds (stratigraphically between dates from Charlies Parlor and from Stalag 17.

General Description. UTEP 31. Passageway that intersects the Entrance Fissure of Dry Cave, with the Human Corridor fill coming from this fissure. Deposits of Charlies Parlor occur immediately down the fissure, with a few elements in both that apparently represent a single individual.

Discussion. The human remains (a vertebra; not listed) may have been carried from elsewhere by spelunkers and laid down here, since it was found on top of a bare rock rather than in place.

Large horse remains from the Human Corridor and from Charlies Parlor were assigned by Harris and Porter to Equus scotti and by Harris 1985a tentatively to E. occidentalis. The earlier identification of Equus scotti is withdrawn as a probable misidentification of E. occidentalis (see the species accounts).
