E-books

rule

Although the web is excellent for short-term publication, it cannot be considered permanent—institutional priorities change, authors die, and other unforeseen events ultimately mean most web-published material becomes lost or, at best, difficult to access. The web-book Pleistocene Vertebrates of New Mexico and Trans-Pecos Texas has been undergoing constant development since 2008, but is accessible only on the web. For this reason, the decision was made to make the publication available in the more permanent form of e-books. Although future developments in e-book publication technology may require periodic transfer to the latest and greatest, the basic technology should be around for the foreseeable future.

The length of a web-book is of little practical consequence. The same is not true of e-books. Thus the Pleistocene Vertebrates of New Mexico and Trans-Pecos Texas is being broken into three separate e-books: Fish, Amphibians, Reptiles, and Birds; Mammals; and Fossil Sites.

Pleistocene Vertebrates of New Mexico and Trans-Pecos Texas - Fish, Amphibians, Reptiles, and Birds and Pleistocene Vertebrates of New Mexico and Trans-Pecos Texas - Mammals are e-books optimized for EPUBReader, a free e-book reader add-on for the Firefox browser (available for download at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/epubreader/). Other readers may be used, but at least some have formatting problems with the book.
