Sylvilagus Measurements

rule

Basic statistics for three species of Sylvilagus are based on modern and fossil specimens in the UTEP Biodiversity Collections. Modern samples of S. nuttallii and S. floridanus are very limited; only Southwestern modern specimens of S. floridanus are including. From left to right, measurements are the alveolar length of the dentary tooth row, the depth of the dentary measured at p4, the degree of crenulation of the anterior wall of the lateral posterior reentrant of p3, the degree of crenulation of the posterior wall of the lateral posterior reentrant of p3, the distance from the most posterior enamel of p3 to the most posterior enamel of the anterior reentrant of p3, the degree of crenulation of the posterior wall of the lateral reentrant of the post-p3 cheek teeth. See the Sylvilagus account for codings, etc. Outliers and fossil specimens not clearly indicated as one or another species have been omitted.
