Jal

NM: Lea Co.

rule

Location of the Jal site.Age. Late Wisconsin.

General Description. Blowouts located about 10 km south of Jal (Morgan and Lucas 2005).

Discussion. The site was discovered by Shafter Ward, New Mexico Highway Department. The remains of extinct animals were eroding out of a clay and silt deposit. Chips of flint were encountered in the deposit (Schultz 1943). Morgan and Lucas (2005) note collections from the Nebraska State Museum as well as at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. They also state that the fauna has not been mentioned in the literature previous to their account, apparently having missed Schultz (1943).
