Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE)
To promote the best interests and values of the economics major and minor students at the University of Texas at El Paso, which include but are not limited to professional networking and development, research opportunities and assistance, and greater understanding of the economics profession.
Mission Statement from official ODE website:
- To confer distinction for high scholastic achievement in economics.
- To stimulate and promote student interest in all aspects of economics.
- To publish an official journal to be entitled The American Economist.
- To sponsor and oversee various award competitions that highlight excellent work in Economics.
The primary focus of Omicron Delta Epsilon is to provide students exposure to both professional economic research, employers, and former economics students in different phases of their professional career. The study of economics can lead to a variety of careers, whether they be in the economic research field, teaching, law, or even medical. ODE prides itself on giving economics students help and connections as often as possible. ODE schedules presentations of research from economists or professors bi-weekly, with occasional panels with former economics students, and presentations from potential employers. Previously before the pandemic, ODE was attempting to attend a national conference in Dallas to present a possible research project. That project could potentially still be in the works, it all depends on if the pandemic starts to improve.
