The Graduate Hooding Ceremony

 

Join us in honoring our engineering graduates at the College of Engineering Pre-Commencement Ceremony. This special event celebrates our graduates with both the Order of the Engineer Ceremony and the Graduate Hooding Ceremony. Bachelor of Science candidates will recite the Obligation of an Engineer and receive their rings, while master’s and PhD graduates will be hooded by their advisors, recognizing their academic achievements.

Group Photos:

  • 8:30 am – Department of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering
  • 8:40 am – Department of Civil Engineering
  • 8:45 am – Department of Computer Science
  • 8:50 am – Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
  • 8:55 am – Department of Engineering Education & Leadership
  • 9:00 am – Department of Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering
  • 9:05 am – Department of Metallurgical, Materials and Biomedical Engineering

Questions regarding group photos and individual photos taken on stage during the ceremony can be directed to Paulina Alvarado.


Students

Tickets for Family & Guests: Pick up tickets any day between Dec 3 – Dec 6, 2024

  • 10:00am – 2:00pm at the Engineering Building, 1st floor lobby
  • 2:00 – 5:00pm at the Engineering Dean’s Office, A-148

If you cannot make it to the times mentioned above, please email gabby@utep.edu.
Tickets not picked up will be distributed on Monday, Dec 9, on a first-come, first-serve basis from the Dean’s Office, room A-148.

Regalia: All students must wear regalia which includes cap & gown. Refer to the UTEP Commencement FAQ webpage on how to purchase regalia.

Check-in & Group Photos: Arrive at 8:00am to receive your name card. If you do not receive your card before your Department’s Group Photos, you will receive it while in line up to 20 minutes before the ceremony starts.

Order of the Engineer Ring: Graduate students who did not attend UTEP as undergraduates are allowed to participate in the Obligation of the Engineer and will receive their ring but will not cross stage.

Questions & Concerns: All MS and Ph.D. students with questions, visit Paulina Alvarado in the College of Engineering, Engineering Edge Center, Room E-201B.

 

FAMILY & GUESTS

Tickets: Tickets will be distributed to students to share with family and friends. Family and friends with tickets will be able to enter the El Paso Convention Center one hour prior to the start of the ceremony. Should seats remain after the ceremony has started, non-ticket holders will be allowed entry.

Seats: Seats will be assigned as you come in. Holding seats will not be allowed. Please review the Clear Bag Policy - Política de Bolsa Transparente and Prohibited Items - Articulos Prohibidos and leave strollers and carriages in your car.

Parking: Family and friends are encouraged to park at the Civic Center Parking Garage.

Photos: A professional photographer will be on-site taking department group photos with faculty and students, photos of individual students crossing stage and headshot photos immediately after. We ask that you avoid interruption of these photos.

 

Faculty

Tickets: Faculty do not need tickets for this ceremony.

Regalia: Regalia should be worn for the group photo and ceremony.

Group Photos: Arrive 10 minutes prior to your Department’s group photo time.

Faculty Speakers: Report to the El Paso Convention Center outside Hall B 20 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony to lead the procession.
