Camp Discovery – A Series of Summer Camps for Kids
Date and Time: June and July 2017
Location: Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens
Price: $50 per individual camp

This summer, the Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens is offering four educational and entertaining camps for children who will be enrolled in 4th, 5th and 6th grades this coming fall. The four camps will be offered in June and July. Choose one or enroll in all four for a discounted price.

Garbology
June 13-16, 2017
9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where does “stuff” go when we are finished with it? How can we find new and creative uses for our stuff? Area artisans will be helping students to create treasures from trash. Activities will include papermaking, jewelry making, and plastic bag art. Students will also learn some basic preservation lessons from archaeology and anthropology, as well as the importance of recycling. Participants will also work in teams to find new uses for mystery items.

Dragons & Dinosaurs
June 20-23, 2017
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Campers will explore dinosaurs and dragons - both mysterious in their own ways. Throughout the week, participants will create their own dragons and dinosaurs, complete with stories and computer-generated visuals. By the end of the week, campers will be able to create a physical version of their dinosaurs and dragons.

Monsters & Robots
June 27-30, 2017
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
What makes monsters and robots so interesting? For one thing, they allow our imagination to run wild! This camp will allow participants to explore the complex world of robots by creating a biography for a fictional robot, complete with a storyboard. Then, campers will be able to make a monster movie and get a monster "makeover."

Mad Scientist
July 11-14, 2017
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Science can be strange and messy, but that's what makes it so much fun! Join us for a week of fizzy, slimy and gooey experiments. Mad Scientists will visit daily and conduct experiments. Participants will also get to tour the UTEP Laboratory of Environmental Biology.

Each camp is $50 for early enrollment and $55 after the early registration deadline. Costs cover all camp supplies, daily snacks and a Friday Pizza Party. $10/hour for before/after care.

Space is limited to the first 20 children for each camp.

All camps will be Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens on the UTEP campus.
