PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • Specialized topics such as Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Requirements Management, System Design and Analysis, System Architecture and Project Management provide a comprehensive understanding of complex systems and methodologies for managing them.
  • A master’s degree opens the path to higher-level technical and leadership positions and responsibilities that can help you make an impact in industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, manufacturing, healthcare, education, energy, information technology, etc.
  • According to ZipRecruiter, the average starting salary for systems engineers in the U.S. is $127,000, which is around 40% more than undergraduate salaries.

Alex Martin is a nontraditional student – after his first attempt at college, he had to drop out and start working to pay bills. He started his career at AT&T and has been there for over 15 years. He graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Computer Information Systems from Indiana University East's online program. Now, he is one semester away from getting an online master's degree in Systems Engineering at UTEP… and isn't ready to stop!

"It has been adaptable and easy to fit into my busy life. The degree is built around working adults and enables us to be successful in our academic life and our personal lives."

WHY UTEP?

  • Our programs are affordable; the systems engineering program is the most affordable one in  Texas.
  • UTEP is military-friendly.
  • Students who stay at UTEP for both undergraduate and graduate degrees can finish their degrees faster, saving themselves both time and money. Other benefits may also be available to current UTEP students (for instance, systems engineering students who are already at UTEP can get the GRE waived and also fast-track to complete both undergrad and  graduate degrees in 5 years (a cost-savings of $10,000!).

UTEP students benefit in other ways as well. Gloria Alyssa Chavez Saenz (see below) is in the Industrial and Systems Engineering program at UTEP. She plans to stay at UTEP for her master’s degree in Systems Engineering and has been very happy being a student here.

"One of the specific benefits that set UTEP apart from other master's degree programs is its exceptional focus on student support and mentorship. The faculty’s commitment to providing personalized guidance ensures that students can thrive both academically and professionally.

"Additionally, UTEP's rich diversity is a crucial factor in my decision to continue here. The University’s inclusive environment allows for interactions with people from various backgrounds, which is essential for developing the interpersonal skills needed in the professional world. This diversity enriches the learning experience, preparing students to excel in a globalized workforce."
