- Prepares students to lead Hispanic-Serving Institutions throughout the United States and address the learning and social needs of their college students
- Quality academic program with strong practical training and experiential learning for promising education professionals
- Does not lead to teaching certification but fills a need for educators who are multilingual, multicultural, first-generation, and who demographically represent the growing populations of college students at colleges across the United States
- Aligned with the professional competencies of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the Council on Standards in Higher Education (CAS) and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA)
IDEAL CANDIDATES - Adult professionals who are interested in managing, administering, and leading undergraduate and graduate programs emphasizing student success at universities, community colleges, medical schools, and nonprofit organizations.
- Recent college graduates who were engaged student leaders and are interested in pursuing a career in higher education and student affairs.
- High school professionals and teachers who are looking to prepare their students for college or transition into a career in higher education.
- Students who want to pursue a master’s degree at a leading Hispanic-Serving Institution on their way to earning a doctorate and serve as a professor.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: LAURA QUEVEDO
Laura Quevedo is a first-generation student. Backed by her parents' unfailing support and confidence in her abilities, she earned a a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Sciences with a concentration in Speech-Language Pathology and worked part-time with the Center for Community Engagement. She also fell in love with higher education, all the networks that it builds, and most importantly, all the lives that it changes. Laura stayed at UTEP after graduation, gradually
advancing to her current position as Senior Coordinator at the Diana Natalicio Institute for Hispanic Student Success and the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: DR. EDUARDO CASILLAS ARELLANO, JR.
Dr. Arellano is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the College of Education's Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations. He has been at UTEP for almost 16 years and prior to that, taught at New Mexico State University for seven years. One of the more important reasons he came to UTEP was due to its unapologetic commitment to serving Hispanic students and the US-Mexico border community. His specialization is in Higher Education Leadership and Administration; in addition to teaching various
courses in that specialization, he has also taught and co-taught K-20 education courses including in research, policy and evaluation. His areas of interest include competency studies, cross-racial interactions among college students, higher education policy and international higher education collaboration.
