Lesson 9

Undertake an Internet search of websites addressing issues of cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analysis of educational technology and share your findings via email with the class.

  1. http://george.eldridge.net/web.htm
This site speaks of the benefits of the Internet from a corporate point of view; as opposed to educational. This page would also be beneficial to students like ourselves who might like to venture into corporate America.

  2. http://www.pima.edu/it/emp/emp4.htm
This site discusses grants and funding as incorporated into a long term plan.

  3. http://www.ed.gov/Technology/Plan/RAND/Costs/costs4.html
This site contains information from 1995. While that wasn't too long ago, in technology's eyes, it could have been 1,000 years ago. It was interesting to read what perspectives people had and to now know what has been accomplished.

  4. http://www.jma.com.au/openlearncost.htm
This is paper that tackles the issue head on. I liked the way it addressed education as such a broad agenda and that analysis is usually very difficult due to various goals. There is also an interesting table included in the paper.

  5. http://www.learner.org/edtech/rscheval/rightquestion.html
This article addresses technology as a whole on education. It is interesting to see what is needed and asked for by so many and the actual effectiveness of technology being incorporated.

In my opinion, Technology is very cost effective when dealing with education. We want no less than the best and I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for". If we expect our students to maintain a high quality education and be competitive in the job market of the future, internationally speaking, we must insure the highest qualities of technological advances available.
