Roberto Rodriguez
I was born and raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, right across the border from El
Paso, TX. I am currently in the final part of my Master's Thesis in
Communication at the University of Texas at El Paso and planning on graduating
on December, 1999. I also earned a BA in Communication at UTEP. As an
undergraduate, I attended two summer semesters a Russian Language and
Civilization seminar at the Moscow State University, Russia.
The main areas of concentration of my Graduate work have been: Instructional Technology, Multimedia Development, Distance Learning and Education Planning. I am currently employed at the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez (UACJ), which is one of the top public universities in Mexico, and is located in the fifth largest city in Mexico. I am Assistant Director for Instructional Technology, where some of my duties include: maintaining and administering the university's website (www.uacj.mx), provide training to faculty using technology as educational tools, the creation and design of courseware using multimedia and other technologies, and also, participate in the development of a distance learning system for the university. The UACJ has offered me the opportunity to strengthen what I've learned during the time I worked as a Graduate Assistant at the Multimedia Teaching and Learning Center at UTEP, and become a professional in this field. I have taken several videoconference courses with Dr. Ingle, and participated in different projects regarding the usage of technology to better the teaching and learning model along the US/Mexico border, and I feel that these type of instructional means can help improve my professional skills. I also teach a class on Multimedia Design at the Institute of Architecture, Design and Art at the UACJ.
I plan to pursue a Doctoral Program somewhere in the world (maybe UT Austin, UK or Spain), in order to become a researcher and participate in the development of instructional technologies and distance learning programs for the improvement of new professionals.
In my spare time, I like to surf the Net, traveling, swimming, developing websites for companies, and cinema. I am a native speaker of Spanish, and as you may have noticed, I speak (and write!) English, French and Russian. I participate in different civic and social groups in Ciudad Juarez as a result of my position at the UACJ.
