In coordinating our Virtual Reunion, we needed the help of our UTEP community members. All members of the UTEP family submitted words of encouragement to fellow alumni and current UTEP students. With your support, we share those messages to help us remember we are Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow, Miners Forever-Stronger Together!

As a former UTEP student, going to school daily at the Fox Fine Arts Building shaped me into the person I am today. I failed many times, but I always picked myself up and kept going. The teachers at UTEP and the students made the experience better but in the end, it’s you who will be at the end of the goal line. No matter how many times you fall down or how many obstacles you face, always know that what you love and what you want to accomplish in life will keep you going and fighting. Getting to graduate is one of the best feelings because you know that you didn’t give up.

At the risk of saying what you have probably heard a gazillion times, these are unprecedented times, given the state of our society, the global economy and, of course, the pandemic. However, remember you are unique, strong and have within you the strength to thrive! So, keep your eyes on the goal and move on, no matter what life throws at you. Go, Miners!

What a whirlwind of a year 2020 has been. Although this isn't how we expected to meet this year, I am grateful for the Alumni Association and Alumni Relations for being creative and continuing to create a meaningful event for us all to enjoy. As Miners, we have been through many difficult times throughout the years and faced adversity in various forms, coming out the other side stronger than before. This year's tumultuous events will prove no different for our community. May we rely on each other and enjoy the time we have with one another, no matter the medium in which we use.

I'm so happy to see the Miner spirit thriving during these difficult times. It fills my heart with joy and hope in knowing the Miner nation is strong and together we'll make it out ok. I'm proud to be a UTEP alumna and a former Top Ten Senior getting to share just how wonderful our school is everywhere I go. My passion for aerospace drove me to Seattle and more than ever I'm grateful to the Alumni Association for putting this virtual event together so I don't miss this Pick-Nic. Stay healthy everyone and go, Miners!

2020 has been a challenging year for us all. First, it was the pandemic and just recently, it was the events of racial injustice throughout this country. “Differences are not intended to separate, to alienate. We are different precisely in order to realize our need of one another.” - Desmond Tutu

What should life after the pandemic look like? This pandemic took a lot from us but it also showed us what really matters - family, friends, loved ones and health. Let’s make our lives post-pandemic the most bountiful by first ensuring we have our health. That means creating a routine that includes exercise and a healthy diet. Then, no matter how busy we are, let's always have time for family and loved ones.

I would like to congratulate all of those who are graduating this year! School is not easy but you made it here. As a double minority in the STEM field (female and Hispanic), I will tell you that is not easy. We are not well represented in this career, but you can now be proud to tell everyone that you are part of the 2% of Hispanic females in the engineering field! If you have accepted a job in the DMV area (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) feel free to connect with me via Linkedin.
