Dylan Richards

PhD Student

Dylan Richards is a third-year doctoral student in the Health Psychology program at the University of Texas at El Paso. He received a B.S. in Psychology from George Mason University in 2014. Generally, his research interest is in how motivation and positive emotions influence alcohol use and misuse. His current research examines the effect of motivation, from a self-determination theory perspective, on engagement in alcohol-related protective behavioral strategies, and, in turn, alcohol use. Also, he is currently investigating self-determination theory postulates as potential mechanisms through which brief motivational interviewing reduces alcohol use and its associated consequences.
