Black Rock

Location of the Black Rock site.Age. Rancholabrean (Morgan and Lucas 2005).

General Description. Fossil were recovered during excavations for the Black Rock Dam, about 0.5 km north of Black Rock on the Zuni Reservation (Morgan and Lucas 2005)

Discussion. This is the type locality of Liops zuniensis Gidley 1906 (= Bootherium bombifrons). Morgan and Lucas (2005) report a K/Ar date of 164±35 ka on the basalt underlying the fossiliferous sediments, thus setting a maximum age.
