Carrizozo

Location of the Carrizozo site.Age. Medial/late Pleistocene (Morgan and Lucas 2005).

General Description. Without documentation, but reported second hand that it was recovered during highway work near Carrizozo.

Discussion. The specimen was left at the Biology Department at Texas Western College (now the University of Texas at El Paso) in 1965 by an unknown person(s).

Fauna.

Morgan and Lucas (2005) assigned the mandible to Mammuthus columbi, but in their 2006 publication, changed the identification to M. cf. imperator.
