Rainbow Trout inhabit relatively cold streams in western North America and Asia. Some populations are anadromous, spawning in freshwater streams, but spending the bulk of their lives in the northern Pacific Ocean. Although now widely introduced worldwide, the historic New World distribution was from Alaska south to the Mexican border (U.S. Dept. of Agriculture 2000).
