The lower third premolar (which is the first of the cheek teeth) of the genus Sylvilagus, and sometimes other genera, is useful for identification.
The anterior lower cheek tooth (p3) of Sylvilagus is useful for identification to species. Shown are p3 and p4 of three species found in the Southwest. Particularly note the degree of crenulation.
