Both of these species are present in most areas of the region during winter or migration. Nearby Playas Lake should have provided habitat at the time.

Redheads are present throughout our region during migration and in winter.

Wintering populations of Canvasbacks occur in the Rio Grande Valley, the valley of the Pecos, and to the east.
