The following  four activities are designed to acquaint you with the use of the technology that is included in this course.  If you can do all of these things then you are prepared to use the features designed in the course.  Implicit instructions are included with each activity.  The instructions are detailed and you must follow them to the letter.  This is an important skill to develop as many required managerial skills depend on the ability to properly delivery what is required.  Preparation of income statements, budgets, tax documents, government regulation compliance, procurement contracts, and funding proposals must be prepared to exact specifications.  Exactness and completeness are important skills to develop.

ACTIVITY 1
E-mail the instructor.
In the subject line of the e-mail,  type "Current Resume". In the body of the message, type in the specifications of your computer, the operating system you are using and the browser you are using. Attach a Word document file to the e-mail which contains your current resume.  I will catalog your e-mail address, critique your resume, and provide personalized feedback of your vita.  This activity will prepare you to swap information in an electronic environment and to communicate "asynchronously"  with individuals or team members.
Instructions

ACTIVITY 2
Participate in the Board Room.
The Board Room is also an asynchronous environment.  It allows you to share information globally and simultaneously.  The idea is to "post" messages and replies to messages.  The result is a threaded discussion.  You can access any of the information posted in the Board Room at your own convenience, at any time, from any place.  Your first activity is to submit a brief biography to the Board Room.  The biography should include

A.  Your name
B.   Your location
C.   Your web-page address if you have one
D.   Your undergraduate degree
E.   Your work and family
F.   Your hobbies
G.   Who you admire the most and why
H.   Your ideal job

Remember...all members of the class will be able to access the information that you provide.  This means that what you write is the very first impression that I and your classmates will have of you.  First impressions are generally hastily made and difficult to change.  Incorrect spelling and grammatical errors can project a negative image.  Your content will determine the image that you project so make sure that it is the image that you want to convey.

After you have posted your biography, read the biographies of your fellow classmates.  We will then have a virtual conference discussing the differences in style, image projection, and presentation.
Instructions

ACTIVITY 3
Join the Virtual Conference
Our first conference is schedule for Thursday, September 9 at 8:00 p.m.   This is a synchronous environment in which all class members will be logged on in real-time simultaneously.   This form of communication allows you to communicate immediately with participants of the conference.  The topic will be the autobiographies from Activity 2.  We will discuss the content and style of the submissions.  Be prepared to discuss similarities and differences of the submissions.
Instructions

ACTIVITY 4
Participate in surveys.
Participant surveys are an important part of future course development.  The course may be modified or "reengineered' based on your feedback.  You are an important source of information and the information you provide will be of utmost importance in studying the effectiveness of this course.  There are several surveys which will be administered at the beginning, mid-term, and end of the course. Click here to enter the survey area.
