WHERE: UTEP Campus (Business Administration Bldg. Room 319)
In March 2017, the Patti and Paul Yetter Center for Law hosted the Region 19 Texas State Citizen Bee Competition on the UTEP campus. The Texas Citizen Bee is a civic education program and competition for ninth to twelfth grade students that enhances students’ understanding of our national heritage. Topics covered by the Texas Citizen Bee include the U.S. Constitution, important people and documents, landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases, civic values and skills, and current events. The Hatton W. Sumners Foundation supports this competition for the Law Related Education Department of the State Bar of Texas. With the help of attorneys from the local bar serving as judges and LSPI students assisting with logistics, high school students participated in the Texas Citizen Bee Competition, and the first place student advanced to the state competition in Austin, Texas.
Representing Fabens High School, Rodrigo Estrada won the competition. Mr. Estrada also won the competition at the state level. He was sponsored by his Social Studies teacher, Ms. Carol Basil.
The next regional competition will be held on March 1st, 2018.
Currently, registration is closed.
