Welcome to the UTEP National Security Studies Institute!
On behalf of our faculty and staff, I welcome you to the National Security Studies Institute—An Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence! Whether you are a current student with us or a prospective applicant, I invite you to learn more about our highly specialized academic unit and our many excellent career enhancing degree and certificate opportunities.
The National Security Studies Institute serves the educational needs of more than 500 students on campus in traditional classroom settings, online to provide regional, national, and international educational outreach, and at Ft. Bliss, Texas to serve the educational needs of local members of the U.S. armed forces. While committed to the success of all of our students, we are particularly dedicated to our veterans and current service members alike. As a result, our courses are scheduled flexibly all year round during the evenings, online, or intensively on Saturdays for busy working students and professionals.
Our innovative degrees and certificates include the allied fields of intelligence studies, national security, defense and strategic studies, and homeland security. Our teaching philosophy is “Learning by Doing.” We provide a great balance of academic and practical instruction from both traditional faculty and experienced practitioners—all subject matter experts. Our aim is to build real world skills and capabilities among our students prior to entering the workforce or to enhance the expertise of experienced security professionals seeking to advance their careers.
Our students have achieved successful career destinations in intelligence, the military, and law enforcement. Others have found employment opportunities in the private sector including defense contracting and finance. While some have gone on to pursue further graduate study at the doctoral level and law school.
In short, we are committed wholly to serving all UTEP students, the U.S. Intelligence Community, our military, federal, state, and local law enforcement, and the Nation!
