Joseph Yingnan Zhou, Ph.D.
Joseph Yingnan Zhou joined UTEP as assistant professor in fall 2016 with his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Iowa. He specializes in comparative politics with a regional focus on China. He is interested in the role of public opinion in authoritarian China. Is people’s strong approval of their government real? Where is it from? How does it interact with governance and policies? And what lights do they shed on the established theories in comparative politics? His publications appear on outlets such as The China Quarterly, Democratization, Asian Survey, and Journal of Chinese Political Science. He teaches classes in his research areas as well as topics of American politics.
