Marty Martin began his career as a dramatist at the Plaza Theater in 1975. His plays Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein, I Don't Want To Be Zelda Anymore, and Shaviana enjoyed extended runs in New York. He has worked intimately on stage and film projects with such legendary artists as Anthony Quinn, Julie Harris, Cloris Leachman, Keir Dullea, Mickey Rooney, Valerie Harper, and Pat Carroll.Regional productions of his plays have been acclaimed by critics throughout the world.
Following the death of playwright Hugh Wheeler, Mr. Martin completed the book for the Broadway productions of Meet Me In St. Louis which was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Book For A Musical, and Singing in the Rain. Praised by Time Magazine, Newsweek, Variety, and the legendary New York Times theater critic Walter Kerr, productions of his plays Off Broadway have received both Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Arts Recording. Mr. Martin was also the recipient of the Drama Logue Critics Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Theater and currently teaches playwriting, screenwriting, and introduction to film at UTEP.
