Lisa Smith
Lisa Smith, Associate Professor of Practice, currently serves as head of the Dance Program in the Department of Theatre and Dance. She has been a member of the dance faculty at UTEP since 2002 and currently teaches Ballet, Performance, Dance Appreciation, Pedagogy, World Dance, and Dances of Mexico and Spain. Lisa danced as a soloist with several companies here and abroad and her performing credits include many classical roles as well as parts in contemporary works. A prolific choreographer, she has created over 40 dance works including Carmen, The Firebird, and Pachuco Zoot: A Tale of Identity here at the Wise Theatre. She holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin and earned her MFA here at UTEP in the Department of Creative Writing. Her interests currently include exploring choreographic form and themes related to the Texas/ Mexico border region. In 2016 Lisa received the College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Faculty in the Arts award.
