Jillian K. Waters
Jillian K. Waters is elated to be a lecturer at UTEP in the Department of Theatre and Dance where she currently teaches Voice and Speech I remotely from New York City. Jillian was born in Bogotá, Colombia but spent her childhood in Japan and England where she studied acting and fell in love with theatre. She received her BFA in Acting from Emerson College in Boston and she received her MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University in New York City. She is a proud Lifetime Member of The Actors Studio and is very active in the Actors Studio’s famous weekly Sessions and Playwriting Units. Some of her favorite Actors Studio experiences are having worked with Ellen Burstyn, Melissa Leo, Estelle Parsons and Alec Baldwin. She received her Shakespearean training at Oxford University in Oxford, UK at the Royal Shakespeare Company Conservatory Program with The British American Drama Academy. She recently started her own production company Mariposa Productions and is working on producing her first short film Gaining & Losing.
Jillian prides herself in creating a safe space for the artist to explore and discover. Her teaching philosophy combines the foundation of relaxation and preparation with the encouragement of creative freedom of expression. Her hope is that after helping the artist get out of their own way, they can free themselves of any obligation to “good acting.” Once they have freed themselves they then can uncover what is really inside the artist’s instrument. She believes in helping each artist to become their own master of their inspiration and believes in respecting the preparation and process of the work.
Some of her favorite Off Broadway credit includes, Two Days Till Dawn at The Gene Frankel Theatre, Emily Dickinson OUTERSPACE! at The Bushwick Starr Theatre with Theatre Plastique, The Answer Killing Question: Buys A Crisis at The Crown Theatre, Blanca, Getting There and Broken Hearts at The Actors Studio, NY. Her favorite Los Angeles credit is Sex, Relationships and Sometimes Love at The Actors Studio, LA. She had the honor of playing Marisol in Marisol with the legendary playwright José Rivera. Jillian is currently working on Mother F**ker with the Hat with The Denizens Theatre Company, of which she is also a proud company member.
