UTEP’s Online Master’s in Construction Management Ranked No. 2
The online master’s degree in Construction Management offered at The University of Texas at El Paso has been ranked No. 2 in the U.S. by OnlineMastersDegrees.org.
The ranking, which is based on Department of Education data, considers affordability, online learning availability and student support performance metrics.
The Master of Science in Construction Management prepares graduates to lead and manage teams in the construction industry, oversee projects, maintain budgets and more. In addition, students must fulfill a semester-long internship, obtaining valuable real-world experience that they can take to their careers.
“Industry partners who sit on the program's advisory board help ensure that the skills graduates acquire are in demand and marketable,” said Adeeba Raheem, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering and Management Program advisor. “The online curriculum is thoughtfully designed to cater to the schedules of working professionals, allowing them to balance their educational pursuits with their existing commitments. The program’s open structure allows students to begin classes at any time during the term, without worrying about course sequencing or prerequisites.”
As a fully online program, the degree opens the doors for students to study at UTEP even if they live outside of El Paso. With a flat tuition rate regardless of geographic location, students can gain the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their careers in an accessible, affordable manner.
“Students unable to attend classes in person may achieve their educational goals online largely because our flexible schedules are built around the students’ many life commitments,” said Beth Brunk-Chavez, Ph.D., dean of UTEP’s Extended University, which manages all online degree programs. “Through online learning, students have access to the same quality faculty teaching on campus without needing to come to campus.”
As a graduate of the construction management program, David Worley, vice president of Ally General Solutions, said the program’s virtual format allowed him to grow in his profession and receive a high-quality education without leaving his home in Houston.
“The experience was great and convenient,” Worley said. “I met really neat people from all walks of life and had wonderful professors. When you have good quality teachers, you really learn a lot.”
UTEP first offered the online master’s degree in construction management in 2016 to meet the need for construction professionals in the region. Since its creation, it has grown to have hundreds of local and international students enrolled in the program.
“It feels great that our program is recognized at the national level in just a few years after its inception,” Raheem said. “We express our gratitude to the civil engineering faculty, staff, students, UTEP administration and local industry for their contributions and constructive feedback, which has helped to improve our online program.”
