University of Texas at El Paso President Diana Natalicio will present the annual State of the University address at the University’s Fall Convocation on Sept. 28.

President Natalicio will remark on the past year’s successes and upcoming goals of the University as well as outline UTEP’s newest 10-year student success initiative, the UTEP Edge.

The UTEP Edge aims to develop students’ many talents, strengths and dreams through a variety of high-impact experiences made possible by the expertise and dedication of UTEP faculty, staff, alumni and community partners.

These high-impact Edge Experiences include: student employment, research and scholarly activity, first-year experience, student leadership, creative activities, learning communities, internships, study abroad/study away, capstone experience and community engagement. These activities have been proven to help students recognize and develop their personal and professional assets and will equip them with a competitive advantage when they graduate and enter the workforce or pursue graduate degrees.

During the event, the President also will recognize the recipients of The University of Texas System Board of Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Awards. They include: Song An, Ph.D., assistant professor of mathematics education; Isabel Baca, Ph.D., professor of English; and Ann Branan Horak, Ph.D., associate professor of practice of religious studies and women’s and gender studies.
