The University of Texas at El Paso has named Stephen Crites, Ph.D., associate dean of the Graduate School, as the interim dean of the College of Business Administration (COBA).

Crites has previously served as interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and professor and chair of the Department of Psychology.

“Dr. Crites brings a demonstrated commitment to access and excellence, and has significant experience as a higher education administrator,” said UTEP Provost Carol Parker. “He joined UTEP as a faculty member in 1994, and is currently serving as associate dean of the Graduate School, which gives him a broad perspective of UTEP’s graduate programs, including the COBA Ph.D. program.”

Crites received his Ph.D. in social psychology from The Ohio State University. Crites’ work has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and published in Psychological Bulletin, Psychological Science, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Psychophysiology. He is active in multiple professional organizations and has served as the treasurer for the Society for the Study of Motivation.

Crites will serve as interim dean during the 2018-19 school year, during which a national search for the permanent dean will take place.

Current COBA Dean Robert Nachtmann, DBA, has been at UTEP since 2005. He will return to the faculty of the Department of Economics and Finance on Sept. 1, 2018.

“Dr. Nachtmann has provided exceptional leadership for UTEP students, faculty and staff,” Provost Parker said. “He started and has maintained the college’s excellent and well-deserved national reputation, pushed open doors of opportunity for UTEP students to gain global awareness through study abroad experiences, and established invaluable community partnerships that have led to corporate academies within the college. These are only a few of the great metrics that validate just how well he has achieved our highest aspirations, and his commitment to providing students the best opportunity to pursue productive and rewarding careers.”
