Join First Responders, Community Members at 9/11 Stair Climb

Join members of the El Paso community at an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Participants will honor those who lost their lives that day by climbing 110 flights of stairs, which represent the floors at the World Trade Center in New York City. Check-in starts at 6 a.m. in Sun Bowl Stadium, and the event starts at 7 a.m. Registration is required.

Faculty, Staff Invited to UTEP Engage Town Halls

Join President Heather Wilson for a campus update on UTEP Engage, the University’s new initiative to better connect students to more opportunities in industry, business, nonprofits and government. Faculty will learn about opportunities for community and research-engaged learning, upcoming career-focused events for students and how to better prepare students for career readiness. UTEP Research: Toxic Metals Above Set Limits Found in 12% of Children’s Toys in the Region

Nearly four out of five children's toys purchased in the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez region contain at least one toxic element, according to a new study led by UTEP researchers. The findings, just published in the journal Environmental Pollution, represent the first binational screening of hazardous metals in toys sold on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

UTEP Education Professor Selected for Rare Third Fulbright Award

Mourat Tchoshanov, Ph.D., a professor in the College of Education, has been selected for a Fulbright Specialist engagement in Kazakhstan. Building on his previous background as two-time Fulbright Scholar, Tchoshanov will partner with Kazakhstan higher education institutions to share his scientific expertise and foster international research collaboration.

Learn Support Skills at RUOK Day Suicide Prevention Training

Throughout this interactive training you will become aware of current mental health trends in college campuses, learn how to identify when someone is at risk for suicide and be trained in communication strategies you can use to support someone who is in emotional distress. Join the training 12-2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 in Acacia Room 102A in Union Building East and stop by tabling around campus from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. the same day.
