Making Learning Affordable for Students

The Open Educational Resources and Affordable Materials Initiative at UTEP will identify, curate, create, support and evaluate OER or other affordable materials to be used in a variety of UTEP courses. 18 faculty have been selected to transform their courses by replacing commercial instructional resources, including textbooks, with OER or affordable materials—either curated or created--to meet student learning outcomes while reducing or eliminating the cost of instructional materials.

Charting the Path to OER

OER helps increase student success by ensuring that students have access to course materials on the first day of class. Materials can also be customized/localized to suit instructional needs and increase engagement. Research has shown improvement in student performance and DFW rates with the use of OER.
