The M.A. in Clinical Psychology program is research focused and prepares students to work in an applied setting or to continue to a Clinical Ph.D. program. Students benefit from doing research in the department's labs and graduate equipped with skills in research methodologies, data analysis scientific writing, and grant development and implementation. Students in this program can also choose to enroll in additional coursework, beyond the degree requirements, in order to become licensed psychological associates or professional counselors.

Reyna Puentes chose this program for its research in health and addictive behaviors. The lab and clinical experiences taught her the value of research and critical thinking. Today she is an international trainer in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and a licensed counselor in El Paso, where she uses MI every day to address health behavior change among bilingual populations.
This program benefits those who want to pursue doctoral training in clinical or health psychology, or who want to work with a community agency. Additional coursework beyond the degree can also be pursued independently for those wanting to obtain licensure as a professional counselor or psychological associate.
