Department Request for Faculty Search
As part of the regular budget preparation process, department chairs or program directors should complete a Request for Faculty Search Form for each faculty search requested. Each faculty member will require a separate form. The form should be directed to the office of the respective academic dean. Upon review, deans should submit the request form, along with a Budget Prioritization Sheet to the Provost's Office. Visit the Equal Opportunity Office for more information on faculty search guidelines.
Authorization to Hire Tenured or Tenure-Track Faculty
Requests to hire tenured or tenure-track faculty members typically originate with the recommendation of a search committee and are generally transmitted through the relevant department chair and dean to the Office of the Provost.
For tenure-track appointments, the Provost then makes a recommendation to the President, who renders the final decision on whether to extend an offer. Cases in which tenure is granted at the time of hire require further approval by the University of Texas System. To expedite the review process, these guidelines delineate a standard process for organizing a hiring recommendation and supporting materials.
