Cohort Advising Model
With the development of the University's Quality Enhancement Plan in 2016, UTEP initiated a re-assessment to the Academic Advising Center's model. The new advising model focuses on three areas: advocacy, engagement
To ensure degree completion, the Academic Advising Center established multiple internal strategies including: a partnership with the UTEP Department of Social Work that integrates four graduate students into the advising model; the Student Success Help Desk which provides students with a centralized place to respond to the obstacles they face while on their way toward timely degree completion; and a partnership with the Center for Institutional Evaluation, Research and Planning which resulted in a Student Advising Profile system. The Profile System, when coupled with holistic advising, influences student retention, completion and provides a clear picture of the students’ strengths and challenges.

Advocacy
The Academic Advising Center provides cohort-based advising designed to enhance UTEP's culture of care. Each student works with an assigned advisor to develop and foster a personalized academic, financial and engagement plan.
Engagement
Bridging the academic, financial, and social realities of every UTEP student, holistic advising promotes engagement in enriching experiences that align with each student's interests, aspirations and commitments.
Empowerment
Holistic advising empowers students to cultivate their assets, create pathways to degree completion, engage in UTEP Edge experiences and graduate with a competitive edge for lifelong success.
