Honorific Awards

Honorific awards comprise prestigious recognitions, fellowships, and memberships in national honor societies and national academies that acknowledge the outstanding contributions and achievements of faculty members in their respective fields. These awards can also be internal, conferred by Research & Innovation, recognizing their impact across UTEP’s research enterprise.

Honorific awards are critical for faculty success as they: 

  • Enhance visibility both within the academic community and the public. 
  • Boost credibility and establish faculty as leading experts in their fields. 
  • Support career advancement by enriching your portfolio, which is beneficial for promotions and tenure considerations. 
  • Attract funding by demonstrating the faculty's expertise and recognition, which can be influential in grant applications. 
  • Raise the profile of our departments, colleges, and the university. 

The Proposal Development Team is dedicated to supporting faculty members throughout the process of applying for honorific awards. Our services include: 

  • Identification of suitable awards based on their research focus and career stage,  
  • preparing nomination packets, providing strategic advice on networking with previous awardees and influential figures,  
  • conducting workshops and seminars on best practices for compiling award applications, 
  • identifying and communicating award opportunities,  
  • helping secure nomination letters,  
  • serving as a liaison between sponsor, nominators, and faculty members,  
  • compiling, editing, and submitting application materials 
  • creating tailored honorific awards portfolios to map out pathways to higher-level recognition for individuals or departments. 

To be effectively prepared for honorific award opportunities, faculty members should: 

  • Keep an updated professional headshot and CV with key accomplishments, publications, and awards.  
  • Document the impact of your work through citations, metrics, testimonials, and media. 
  • Engage with professionals by attending conferences, publishing, and seek endorsements from colleagues. 
  • Nominate your colleagues. 
  • Have you received an honorific award? Share your experience! 
  • Are you an early career faculty? We provide guidance!
