Important COVID-19 Testing Updates
Thursday, January 28, 2021
Here are a few updates about UTEP’s Proactive Coronavirus Testing Program. We’ll cover:
- Testing after vaccination
- Frequency of testing
- Drive-through testing options for those not on campus, family members, and those with COVID-19 symptoms
Testing After Vaccination
As we begin to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to high-risk UTEP students, faculty and staff, we must continue to stay vigilant to suppress the spread of coronavirus on campus.
UTEP employees and students who are working on campus or taking face-to-face classes this semester have access to free coronavirus testing through UTEP’s Proactive Walk-Up Coronavirus Testing Program. Even after you receive the vaccine, you are encouraged to get tested through UTEP’s proactive testing program every two weeks if you have to be on campus because there is still a chance you can get and spread the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you continue to follow best health practices to protect yourself and others, even after you are fully vaccinated.
Convenient on-campus, walk-up testing locations are open Monday-Friday. Go to consent.utep.edu to submit a one-time, online consent form, if you have not done so already. Visit utep.edu/covidtesting for the week’s schedule and locations.
Frequency of Testing
Beginning Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, individuals will be permitted to test no more than once a week at the on-campus walk-up testing locations. For example, if you test on Monday this week, you would be able to get another test starting next Monday.
It is usually not necessary to be tested for coronavirus more than once a week unless you are symptomatic. Testing more often through the UTEP walk-up testing program, which has limited resources, may prevent someone else from being tested who needs it.
Test results will be shared with you in less than 24 hours. You will receive an e-mail notification directing you to results.utep.edu when test results are available.
If you are not required to be on campus this semester or if you have COVID-19 symptoms, please do not use the walk-up testing site.
All current UTEP employees, students and their family members can be tested for COVID-19 at the State Drive-Through Testing Site – UTEP Section in the SC3 parking lot at Schuster Avenue and Lawton Drive. The site is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To learn more about the differences between the walk-up and drive-through testing options, take a look at this comparison grid.
Bring your Miner Gold Card and pre-register at http://honumg.info/Miners to participate.
Your test results will be emailed to you within 2-5 days. Remember to check your junk/spam email folders for the emailed test results. Participants who do not have an email address will receive a phone call.
Thank you for continuing to protect your health and those around you.
Miners take care of Miners!
P.S. The vaccination program at the Interdisciplinary Research Building is going well. We are close to being finished vaccinating all of our high-risk employees and students, including over 800 students who work in clinical settings. If you haven’t signed up to get vaccinated, you should. Go here to get signed up.
