Vaccination Program
Monday, December 21, 2020
UTEP is in the process of becoming a COVID-19 vaccine provider under the Texas vaccination program.
Once UTEP becomes an approved vaccine provider, we expect to receive notice about vaccines coming to us on very short notice and we will have to deliver those vaccines quickly based on risk – likely the following day.
To prepare for this, we really have to complete the necessary authorizations and paperwork for you to be vaccinated in advance so that we can communicate directly and quickly with you and run a very safe and efficient vaccination program.
The state has made clear that we won’t get more vaccine if we don’t use what we get well. So, we have to set up a system that works efficiently to reach our high-risk people before the general population.
Tomorrow, you will get an email with a link to the vaccination program consent form and some questions about your risk level. There are less than 10 questions. These questions will let us prioritize the distribution of the vaccine to those who are at most risk first.
Please complete the consent and questionnaire no later than Monday, Dec. 28 so that you can be on the list to get vaccine as soon as it is available.
Information collected through the questionnaire will be kept confidential.
Eventually, all UTEP students and employees will be able to be vaccinated through the UTEP vaccination program.
If you are eligible to be vaccinated through another place – the hospital where you work, for example – don’t delay being vaccinated. If you don’t know who will get the vaccine first for you, go ahead and fill out the form with us so that you can be vaccinated with us if needed.
When a vaccine becomes available for you, we will send you an email with information about when and where to go on campus to be vaccinated.
If you do not complete the consent and questionnaire in advance, you will not be notified about coming to get vaccinated at UTEP.
There will be no walk-up vaccination at UTEP without having filled out the risk information in advance at the link you will get tomorrow.
We have a wonderful team of people working over the holidays to make sure that we are ready to vaccinate when we get the call from the state. Filling out the questionnaire in advance is a key to making this work.
To learn more about the COVID-19 vaccines, take a look at the fact sheets put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Have a great holiday and thanks in advance for your help to make this work for all 27,000 UTEP Miners.
Warm Regards,
Heather Wilson
