Travel and Coronavirus Update
Monday, September 21, 2020
On Sept. 1, UTEP announced that travel restrictions would be lifted and travel could resume as usual. Last week, The University of Texas System received clarification from the Governor’s office that requires all state agencies to continue restricting non-essential domestic travel and all international travel. Based on this new information, we will revert back to limited travel. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Effective immediately, University-sponsored international and domestic travel will once again be suspended, with the exception of travel to and from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Travel requests for Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, will continue to require prior approval from the International Oversight Committee (IOC). All other exceptions to this policy for faculty or staff conducting research-related or mission-critical functions will require approval from the supervising vice president. Student exceptions will require additional approval by the Dean of Students.
Those who wish to plan for future travel must seek approval from their respective vice president prior to making any University-sponsored commitments or payments for related expenses (airfare, hotel, conference fees, etc.)
Any questions may be directed to the UTEP Travel Office by calling 915-747-5171. Questions related to student travel may be directed to the Dean of Students Office at studenttravel@utep.edu or 915-747-5648. Specific questions related to study abroad activities, including faculty-led programs, should be addressed to the Office of Study Abroad at studyabroad@utep.edu.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these uncertain times. We will continue to monitor developments and communicate guidance on any changes to travel guidelines.
